Another brain fart.
Looking at the player cards, battalion guns give a +1 at short range to their parent unit's salvo fire. I hadn't realized that there is no modifier indicated for their effective range "skirmisher" fire, so that is resolved at a +0 modifier.

Re: Attack 1 Pip Dilemma
I believe you've inadvertently misstated the actual situation Viking. The division in question had 3 cavalry, 3 light infantry, and 1 horse gun - a total of 7 units.

Reserves (Again)
The more I get into this subject the more confused I seem to get. Concerning operational moves, p. 41 indicates that a division must have the "Reserve" order to make operational moves. It also says that units can make operational moves during multiple turns. This is odd, since on-table divisions und...

Re: Do Battalion guns suffer any shooting penalty
Interesting question. I can see it decided either way. Battalion guns only represent 2-3 individual guns while the mother unit represents 600-900 men, so losses to the parent unit could be considered largely irrelevant to the fire of the battalion guns, and so no. On the other hand, much the same th...

Re: Battalion Guns and Skirmishing
Forgive me Roger, but please do not cite history. This is a game. There are examples of entire French divisions being deployed as skirmishers, but the rules do not permit that. You can find examples of almost anything that happened in history (see for instance the thread about mixed Ottoman units) t...

Re: Battalion Guns and Skirmishing
Absolutely not a common occurrence. Never seen it myself. I just think if a player is dumb enough to arm his light infantry with battalion guns, and then breaks the unit down into detached skirmishers, he deserves to lose the battalion guns when the unit flees, enters difficult terrain, or crosses a...

Re: Battalion Guns and Skirmishing
That is all well and good, but if the skirmisher flees, which they do at the drop of a hat, or crosses difficult terrain, or crosses an obstacle, would not the gun be lost for good according to p. 24? I see no exemption here for detached skirmishers. And if all these "special cases" for battalion gu...

Another possibly dumb question about buildings
OK. Lets say there is a 4-building village, with the buildings arranged in a simple rectangle. Friendly units occupy the 2 buildings nearest the friendly table edge. An enemy unit sits next to and touching one of the unoccupied buildings. A couple of questions: 1. Can a friendly unit move from it's ...
