Re: Unit orientation prior to retreat or flee move

Thanks Marc. That is how I understand the author's intent as well, but I thought I'd ask how others play it.

Re: Timing of C in C points allocation

I think I may have misunderstood the original post. I understood "commander" to refer to the C-in-C, in which case I stand by my original reply. If you meant each individual division commander, I still lean towards the C-in-C being able to dispense his command pips when and as need arises, but could...

C-in-C and the Reserve question

Got a query about how the C-in-C rating relates to the Reserve section of an army list. For example, The French in Germany, 1805-1806 list has a "Reserve" section that permits 0-1 grenadiers, 0-23 voltigeurs, and 0-1 artillery (either 8 or 12 foot battery or 4, 6, or 8 horse battery) - a total of 4 ...

Re: Reserve units query

However, I see nothing in the rules that would prevent this ordinary commander from selecting an artillery unit form those units available in the reserve, and pulling a second artillery unit from a division with his single command point. Nowhere do I see a limit on the number of units a C-in-C can c...

Re: Reserve units query

Not quite. An ordinary general can only take a single unit from those available under "Reserve". He could in addition take a single unit from a division. If it is artillery, he can keep it under his command in the reserve. As I read it, if it is not artillery, it can be assigned to a division but ke...

Re: Battalion guns for light infantry

That might work as long as the detached skirmishers have never been forced (or opted) to flee, entered difficult terrain, or crossed an obstacle. These all do appear as reasons a unit loses it's battalion guns.

Unit orientation prior to retreat or flee move

Maybe a stupid question, but I find the description in the English rules very unclear on this point. A unit forced to retreat or flee as a result of shock combat first must be oriented with it's front enemy" for a retreat, and with it's "rear facing the enemy" for a flee (page 60). Since there is no...

Re: Stupid status question

Wow is this correct? We have been using the combination of status + moral - so an L4 beats an L2. Frankly, this makes more sense to me but if that is not the rule . . .
