That does not seem correct to me. A tenacious Russian jager might become a skirmisher. He is still the same soldier and ought to be a tenacious defender of difficult going against other foot.

I see nothing in the rules that states he should lose that ability.

Ideally the next version of the rules could be structured differently. Retreating would be a rule section, fleeing another etc. Describing fleeing in both charge response and shock outcomes is not helpful. Passage of lines needs to distinguish between a voluntary passage, when there is room to clear...

In my book 1813 - 1815 Landwehr have ' large size option'. I don't see anything that doesn’t allow that.

Might it have something to do with the rules not letting skirmishers within 2UD of formed troops? 🤪 It would be interesting to know if formed troops without skirmishers were prevented from shooting back at skirmishers by their officers. They presumably could all fire the same distance but it wasn't ...

In the army lists Landwehr are listed as large or medium. I will check the book. I use 1813 Prussian a lot with large LW units.

The skirmisher rules don't work too badly, but they do make the game a bit longer and add complexity.
With a single base as a representation you can have Sharpe and his mates represented too. I would miss my Jagers.

Continuing the above idea - make jagers etc. like battalion guns. Use a representative single base with a unit, maybe allow it to be transferred from one unit to another within 2UD at the start of the turn.

I have not thought of trying that one
