Re: Stupid status question
Wait. But in this example the artillery does have better status; so it wins? Right?

Re: Battalion guns for light infantry
Not positive on this one, but I think I saw something on this elsewhere on the forum; maybe even on the French forum. Anyway, I think they just disappear. Sort of like dismounting in ADLG where the horses are just gone - maybe eaten or something.

No. The rating of the commander controls how many units can be in the reserve.

I believe it would move half way and stop Walt. You cavalry would not even roll for it's reaction until the charging unit moved half way.

Do cossacks have to give ground before advancing infantry a la detached skirmishers?
The subject asks the question really.
In many ways cossacks are super detached skirmishers who have no ranged fire. Do cossacks have to give ground (retire or flee) before an advancing infantry unit they cannot contact frontally?
Any thoughts?

An odd question occurred to me during our game yesterday. Artillery fire is only effective (somewhat against detached skirmishers at short canister range. Artillery cannot shoot ball at detached skirmishers, or perhaps more accurately, doing so has zero effect. The question came up yesterday: can ar...

Re: Shooting on steep hills
Good discussion Gibbyj. As you say, in the absence of a definitive ruling, we will all have to noodle through this issue as we think best.

Re: Shooting on steep hills
OK gibbyj, I follow your reasoning. But if the 2 enemy units are on opposite sides of the ridge, and each within 1 UD of the ridge, and so within the 2 UD salvo range, why wouldn't this fire be resolved as salvo fire with the additional -2 modifier applied to both to account for the intervening ridg...

Re: Shooting on steep hills
Again, thank you both for your responses, but I just do not see how you reach this conclusion based on the language in the English Edition of the rules. While it is cl;ear that units within 1 UD resolve fire as skirmisher fire, it is equally clear that any unit firing at them take an additional -2, e...
