Hi
Can someone give me example of when can artillery fire, limber and move causing a -1 fire penalty
I ask because you move before final fire?

Its a good question, an example in the main rules would have been good.
I'm pretty sure this was debated on the French forum but no consensus or ruling made.

For me, its either of
Fire at -1 in Prep because you know your going to move, then limber and move in the Movement phase.
or Fire in the Movement phase at -1 and then limber and move.

Maybe it's both.
I would be comfortable with both
cheers

Maybe we are getting the idea of activation wrong. Perhaps we should consider spending a CP as activating a unit or group for a whole turn. Once activated the artillery will be able to act in all appropriate phases.

Artillery page 54
Fire in preparatory phase 2b at - 1 allowing move in 2d or,
Move in 2d and fire in 2e also at - 1 or,
Fire in 2b at +1 for stationary. Put the action marker on now to indicate that it will not move later or
Fire in 2e with no movement at +1

Note artillery page 29
Any move by limbered artillery gets an action marker irrespective of firing in 2e.

The - 1 for firing with an action marker is only for returning fire. It does not apply in a unit's own activation.
However returning fire in the enemy turn gets an action marker so (page 29) this will prevent initiating fire or any movement if it activates later in that turn.

I think that covers all the options.

The +1 is for stationary throughout the turn, so I don't agree with the stationary bonus if you prep then move and the -1 is for limbering or unlimbering and yes if it has to return fire it will have an action marker and get -1.

Prep then move you could not get a +1. I don't think I wrote that.

Ok
This is a post from the French Forum and it’s under the heading “Artillery prep fire and movement
He states that you must announce that after prep fire you will limber and move with the -1 modifier and no +1 for stationary. This makes good sense as it allows You to fire and try to get out of harms way and then say your still within cavalry range then you can flee because your limbered

Yes, but no +1 for stationary bonus
It can also fire then limber and move with a (-1 for moving) Unless C class where limbering up takes the whole movement

It is perfectly correct

When you fire, you have to announce if you want to move after firing and apply the corresponding modifier.

The action marker is placed at the end of artillery activation.
Sometimes it can prevent artillery to move.
For example : Artillery do an opportunity fire ou do a return fire before its activation. When it is activated, it cannot move due to the action marker.

During it's activation, an artillery can fire (with -1 penalty) then limber and move (see p 54).
It simulates the artillery firing a volley or two and then maneuver to another position.
