Division structure

Possibly dumb question that came up today.

To be legal, a division must contain a minimum of 2 units. If I purchase a 2-unit division, but then use my brilliant C-in-C's command pips to detach 1 of these units and assign it to another division, is the "rump" 1-unit division legal? It had 2 units as purchased.

Hi Viperofmilan.

Minimums apply during the creation of the division.

P67 " après réorganisation, une division doit toujours avoir au minimum une unité d'infanterie ou de cavalerie"

p67 "after reorganization, a division must always have at least one infantry or cavalry unit"

So yes it's legal .

regards

Many thanks. Still seems odd to me.

End result there is an independent Battalion, small in size maybe, but capable of independent action on a busy battlefield.

Sort of like a Special Forces unit.

Its been a while since Ive read Petre's "Napoleon's Campaign in Poland 1806-1807" - but if I recall correctly, he goes into detail about the actions of pretty elite French Legere batallions that seem to have acted as independent commands once unleashed.

The exploits of these guys are quite amazing too !
