Woods and Trees

This is maybe not a specific Bataille Empire question but I'm new to Miniatures and hope for some enlightenment ;) . In the rules it is shown how stands are positioned which occupy a building (around the building base). How is this handled with a terrain base containing Trees ?
I'm playing with 10mm and have a pack of Trees from Woodland senics. Now I want to build some wooded terrain. Do I have to space the trees on the base so that I can place figurebases in between ? Or, as seen on YouTube, make the single trees removable so to make place for figures ?

I would be thankful for any hints and tips from experienced players how to handle this.

We nearly always use removable trees on a piece of painted felt or similar. It is more important to us to be clear where the figures are than to have pretty forests.
As we travel to competitions as well as playing at home and club, terrain has to be portable. Having said that, we do our best to make terrain as pleasing possible.
