skirmishers retiring

heya all,

In which direction do detached skirmishers retire when enemy cavalry or formed line infantry move close to them ?

Up to now, I've worked on the principle that the detached skirmishers retire directly to their own rear until > 4 UD or 2 UD away from the enemy.

However, the rules aren't that specific and merely say retire.

So, does this mean they can move away in any direction to be outside the appropriate distance ?

Have a look at the latest clarifications. This is covered. The skirmishers move away from the advancing troops in the direction of the advance.
