Britcon 12-14 August 2022
At Britcon this year the Bataille Empire Napoleonic rules will feature for the first time, in a multi-round competition.
After more than a decade in Manchester, 2022 will see The BHGS' premier event Britcon move to the heart of the UK's "Lead Belt" to a new home at Nottingham Trent University's City Campus, still on our regular "2nd weekend in August" dateline.
This is a much larger, more well lit (and ventilated!) space than we had in Manchester, allowing us to host all of the main gaming events together on a single floor as well as opening up the possibility of a significant expansion of both the gaming area and the trade show should there be additional demand to do so.
The new venue is also very well located for transport links, especially for international players with Nottingham being on the mainline from the St Pancras Eurostar Terminus, and the venue itself having a tram stop that connects to nearby East Midlands Airport right outside the front door.
The City campus buildings are in the very heart of Nottingham, and retain the same benefits of onsite student-priced B&B accomodation and student-priced onsite bars too - allowing our gaming period to run over a variety of different timelines and formats across either full the "Friday night + 8-8 gaming Saturday + more games on Sunday" timeline, or more traditional 1 and 2 day events and formats.
In 2022 accommodation will be bookable direct from the BHGS along with your gaming event ticket
BE competition details :-Coalition armies v Republican/Empire armies
This 15mm event will run with 5 games over the weekend (Friday night, 2 games on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday) where details can be found by following the link below.

Re: Britcon 12-14 August 2022
Greeting fellow BE fans I am keen to promote the playing of BE over in the UK following up on the success of Herve’s other major ruleset ADLG which is seen as the principle set of rules for Ancient wargaming. To that end we have obtained a slot in the Britcon for the first time to promote this set of rules. We have a reasonable number of Brits already signed up but would really like to encourage entry from our more experienced continental neighbours so we can quickly get up to speed on the rules to make this the go to set of rules for wargaming the Napoleonic period.
Nottingham may seem a considerable distance away, but the lines of transport are well linked to the continent.
By Train
Nottingham Mainline Station is a 15-minute walk from Nottingham City Campus, and is also connected by Tram. Nottingham is well connected to many cross country and inter-city routes, including being 2-2.5 hours on a direct line from St Pancras, the Eurostar terminus in London, making Britcon easily accessible from Europe by rail.
By Air
East Midlands Airport is the closest airport to Nottingham City Campus and is just 15 miles outside the city. The Skylink bus service runs every half an hour into the city centre, from where you can walk or get the tram to the venue.
For sat navs and route planners the postcode for the front of the venue is:
10 Goldsmith St, Nottingham NG1 4BU
Not only does the Britcon host at least 20 different gaming periods covering all aspects of wargaming but has a fantastic array of nearly 30 traders waiting to meet your wargaming needs plus a bring and buy which is always very popular.
So please consider coming to Britcon this year to give a good launch to BE competitions in the UK and have a great time.

Re: Britcon 12-14 August 2022
Britcon 2022 : Already breaking records!
With only 3 months left to go, Britcon 2022 is already breaking records at our new home in at Nottingham Trent University's city-centre campus in the heart of the UK's "Lead Belt", still in our traditional dateline of 12th-14th August (trade show 13th &14th only).
Highlights so far include :
• Over 260 players are already signed up across our 22 different gaming periods as of today - that's getting on for over 100 more than our most recent outing before the pandemic hiatus with over 100 days still to go. So, a big thank you to all of you who have entered already - and for the rest of you, we hope to see you soon!
• The Britcon Trade Show now has more than 30 confirmed traders and demo games, including a host of new exhibitors and some first-time-ever-seen local traders.
• Britcon also has a new headline sponsor this time out, in the shape of Forged In Battle. They will be showcasing their impressive and growing 15mm and 28mm historical ranges at the show, as well as providing sponsorship and very generous prize support to a host of our historical periods this year too.
• We've now confirmed that the Nottingham Board & Wargames Club will be manning the Bring & Buy at the show, and will be opening early on Friday lunchtime for players to drop off any items they want to sell. NBWC will also be bringing card payment terminals along to the show, so you can even now buy - or be paid for selling - using plastic instead of cash this year!
• Trade press and online advertising for Britcon's competitions and trade show will start hitting your favourite magazines and website in the next few weeks, so look out for our adverts and banners on your pages and screens too. Keen listeners may know that we've already had a shout-out on the WSS Podcast earlier this month!
Events you can enter at Britcon this year include newcomers such as Swordpoint, To The Strongest!, War & Conquest and Bataille Empire which will be joining longstanding favourites including DBA, L'Art de la Guerre, Saga, Kings of War, Mortem et Gloriam, Epic and the Official Bolt Action English Nationals. Even more rulesets will be on table at Nottingham's first ever official Too Fat Lardies Games Day, running at Britcon for the first time this year with a host of Lardy favourites (including Rich and the team!) on full display.
The TFL Games Day is almost at capacity already, however if you want to take part in any of our competitions there is still plenty of availability as we have oodles of space at our new venue at Nottingham Trent University City Campus to fit everyone in to the competition area.
Registration for the Britcon Trade Show is also now open if browsing, shopping and trying your hand at demo games is more your thing. Entry to the show is FREE this year, so even if you just fancy popping in to have a look around we'd be delighted to see you.
We also still have space for more clubs to bring demo games along, and so if your group fancies taking part why not get in touch and let us know what you might like to bring along?
Even if you're not local to the "Lead Belt", you may well have some wargaming buddies who are, so we'd be most appreciative if you could forward this email to them so they can advantage of FREE entry to a wargames show and visit us this coming August 13th & 14th in the very heart of Nottingham.
Other BHGS Events
We'll also be back at UK Games Expo over the weekend of 4/5th June with events for the ADLG and DBMM rulesets, and have a whole roster of competitions on offer this October 15th & 16th when the BHGS Teams competition takes place for the first time alongside the long-running SELWG show in North London. Tickets are on sale for both events - see the BHGS website for more details
If you've not done so already, we do hope you can join us at Britcon - either as a player or a trade show visitor - this coming August

Re: Britcon 12-14 August 2022
*Hi Guys,** Just got an update from Britcon and I’m pleased to say the event looks like being a great success, but we could really do with some more entrants to the** Bataille Empire **period to give us a reasonable turn out. On site accommodation has now been sold out up cheap accommodation is still available in the area but is going fast so if your still undecided please look at joining us soon. It would be really great if we could have some entries from the continent as the BE story is just starting in the UK and we’re trying to catch up with you guys so a little help would be appreciated.

Re: Britcon 12-14 August 2022
Just to add to Adrian’s post - we really could do with some additional players to help break BE into the scene, so if you’d like to try it out against a group of bumbling semi-competent but friendly people come along! The more the merrier

Re: Britcon 12-14 August 2022
Be really good if we could get a few more entries to boost the BE numbers. Britcon looks like being a great event this year. I shall be certainly visiting the bring and buy to see what bargains can be had!
Re: Britcon 12-14 August 2022
Britcon is now less than 3 weeks away, and with a record-breaking 335 players taking part so far (over 100 of whom are staying with us onsite), and almost 40 traders, demo games and event sponsors at the FREE-to-enter Britcon Trade Show (which also features a Bring & Buy, and a Free Play gaming room) we're looking well set for a cracking debut outing this year in Nottingham, at the Nottingham Trent University Conference Centre in the heart of the Lead Belt.
For our first ever Britcon 2-day BE event we've currently got the following high quality, stylish and good looking bunch of 6 players signed up, and with more space at the venue than we can shake a stick at, any additional players (ideally signing up in even numbered amounts!) would still be exceedingly welcome:
