Movement of troops under Retreat orders

Message par Adrian Steer » mar. 15 avr. 2025 18:02

Thought it was worth starting a conversation on this topic to see how people want to play this as its not clear in the rules regarding how troops should move to the rear table edge in this situation.
My view is the following please post comments if you agree or disagree.
Troops moving back must move as far as they can during a move and not just a few mm. So an infantry unit in line can move backwards 2UD while remaining facing forward ( 3UD in column) or if they want can about face and move 3 UD. All movement should be towards the table edge away from the nearest enemy. Similarly cavalry can do an about face and move towards the table edge with an option to turn round at the end of the move but must move the maximum amount possible. I believe the Spirit of the order is about an orderly retreat facing off threats hence they can turn to face the enemy and not leave their flanks and rear exposed to possible charges.

This how we have played it. It is in the spirit of a vague rule.

This is how I've played it. I don't think 'A' class infantry should have to about face and march off just because that's faster than going backwards, when 'B' class don't.
